Betty (November 6)
Adapting her acclaimed 2018 indie Skate Kitchen to the small screen, filmmaker Crystal Moselle lets us hang out with Janay (Dede Lovelace), Kirt (Nina Moran), and their girl gang, a group of young female skaters struggling to hang cool on the streets of New York City. Occasionally they clash with skater boys who resent girls rolling on their turf (“Betty” is a derogatory term reclaimed for the series title), but on the whole the show is a loose, cool, engaging look at modern teen friendships through the lens of a specific subculture.
His Dark Materials Season 2 (November 17)
And so we return to the alternative universe of Phillip Pullman’s acclaimed YA series, wherein brave young Lyra (Dafne Keene) continues her adventures against the powerful Magisterium (the Catholic Church with the serial numbers filed off) and the sinister Mrs Coulter (Ruth Wilson). Meanwhile Lord Asriel (James McAvoy) continues his forbidden researches into the magical substance known as Dust, and cowboy balloon pilot Lee Scorseby (Lin-Manuel Miranda) and armoured polar bear Iorek Byrnison (Joe Tandberg) provide local colour. Confused? It’s a big, dense second world fantasy that demands close attention, but luckily you’ve got time to binge the first season before season two kicks off.

Machete Kills (November 8)
Director Robert Rodriguez (Sin City, Desperado) returns to his iconic grindhouse title, with Machete (Danny Trejo) pitting the blade-swinging Mexican vigilante against Mel Gibson’s deranged arms dealer and Demian Bichir’s revolutionary leader at the behest of Charlie Sheen’s U.S. president. It’s all very tongue-in-cheek and OTT, and the impressive cast, including Michelle Rodriguez, Tom Savini, Jessica Alba, Amber Heard, Sofía Vergara, Lady Gaga, Antonio Banderas, Cuba Gooding Jr., Vanessa Hudgens, Alexa Vega and William Sadler, are all in on the joke. It is a damn shame we never got the third film, Machete Kills… In Space!
The Hunt (November 15)
The much-delayed political satire, its release torpedoed by both school shootings and public denouncement by Donald Trump, now comes to BINGE, so you can finally see what all the fuss is about. A mixed bag of right wing “deplorables” including Betty Gilpin (GLOW), Ike Barinholtz (Sisters), Emma Roberts (Scream 4), Ethan Suplee (Mallrats) and more find themselves being hunted for sport on a remote estate by a group of “inner city elites” (Hilary Swank and company). Director Craig Zobel updates The Most Dangerous Game for the Twitter age, throwing sharp barbs at political tribalism, cancel culture and internet conspiracy theories, while never skimping on the gore.
Loving (November 22)
Director Jeff Nichols (Mud, Shotgun Stories) tackles the true and touching story of Mildred (Ruth Negga) and Richard (Joel Edgerton) Loving, an interracial couple whose marriage defied Virginia State Law in the 1960s. Their battle to have their relationship recognized went all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court, with the help of ACLU lawyer Bernie Cohen (Nick Kroll). But what resonates here is the relationship between Richard and Mildred, as warm and resonant a romance as has ever been committed to screen.
