The Beekeeper: Australian trailer and release date

Having battled a bloody great shark in the recent The Meg 2: The Trench, old mate Jason Statham turns his attention to financial predators, with similarly lethal results. David Ayer (Suicide Squad, Fury) directs, and we’re here for Stath kicking the living hell out of evil capitalists.

When is The Beekeeper being released in Australia?

The Beekeeper hits Australian cinemas on January 11th, 2024.

What is The Beekeeper about?

After his kindly neighbour commits suicide after being wiped out by phishing scam, a humble apiarist reveals he possesses a certain set of skills that make him a nightmare for people like…well, not you, gentle reader, but certainly every scumbag who crosses his field of vision. As it turns out, beekeeping isn’t just a hobby for him. The Beekeepers are a secret black ops unit that exist outside the official chain of command, doing the jobs no one else can do, operating in the shadows… you know the drill.

The cast of The Beekeeper

Jason Statham! And it looks like nobody involved gives a toss about hitting the coveted PG-13 US rating, so he’s off the leash here. Plus Emmy Raver-Lampman, Josh Hutcherson, Bobby Naderi, Minnie Driver, Phylicia Rashad and Jeremy Irons.

Why we’re excited about The Beekeeper

Once upon a time Sam Raimi coudn’t get the rights to The Shadow, so he made Darkman instead, and the world is a better place for it. This feels like David Ayer had the same issue with The Punisher. Sure, it’s a little daft, but it doesn’t seem to be taking itself too seriously. And a bit of bone-crunching brutality delivered with a knowing wink is always welcome around these parts.

Ayer can be a bit hit and miss as a director, but when he’s on form he’s absolutely top tier in the gritty action department. Plus, we like watching greedy suits getting absolutely murdered. Honestly, it’s almost a kink at this stage.
