Queer Eye season 8: Australian trailer and release date

Fans of the Fab Five v 2.0 will be delighted to hear that makeover/lifestyle show Queer Eye is back for another season. Those of us who have spent 20 years being told “hey, you should go on that!”? Not so much.

When is Queer Eye season 8 being released in Australia?

Queer Eye season 8 is streaming in Australia exclusively on Netflix from January 26.

What is Queer Eye season 8 about?

The premise is simple: a crack squad of gay lifestyle gurus take some hopeless schlub and give him (or, occasionally, her) an extreme lifestyle makeover: fashion, grooming, food, décor, the works. Does it work? Does it stick? Generally. Every so often their advice spills the banks of the show and impacts the wider world. Remember when everyone has rocking the French tuck for a hot minute? All down to these guys.

This season’s lucky victims include a former nun, the world’s biggest Kiss fan (could be my old boss, come to think of it), and the football coach for the Louisiana School for the Deaf.

The cast of Queer Eye season 8

Ladies, gentlemen and enbies, your Fab Five are: Food and Wine expert Antoni Porowski; Grooming guru Jonathan Van Ness; Culture and Lifestyle king Karamo Brown; Fashionista Tan France; and Design deity Bobby Berk. This is Berk’s last season, the lifestyle legend having announced his departure on Instagram in November.

Why we’re excited about Queer Eye season 8

Queer Eye’s relentless positivity, compassion, and staunch refusal to judge sets it well-coiffed head and tastefully tailored shoulders above the usual swathe of lifestyle pap. Subverting stereotypes and expectations at every turn, what could have been a wallow in the shallower end of the culture pool is instead a hugely life-affirming series that celebrates its both its subjects and hosts. And the sheer number of localised spin-offs indicate that’s something we can all use a bit more of.
