Nic Cage is…Nick Cage, in the first trailer for The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent

Nicolas Cage stands before a to-scale model of himself wielding two golden guns. “Is this supposed to be me? It’s grotesque”, he wonders. Then he turns to his number 1 fan, played by Pedro Pascal: “I’ll give you $20,000 for it.”

Obviously we’re all big fans of Nic but Pascal will take things to another level in The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, an upcoming comedy-thriller in which the Face/Off star takes on his nuttiest role yet: himself.

Written and directed by Tom Gormican, this high-concept action flick takes care to mention a bunch of Cage movies already in its first red band trailer. Con Air, The Rock, Gone in Sixty Seconds…and the film’s story even includes Cage’s notoriously dodgy financial choices, forcing him to accept a million dollars to appear at an eccentric billionaire fanboy’s birthday party.

Things go awry, of course, with the teaser closing on Cage and Pascal desperately trying to escape from some impending, unseen danger. It all has to do with the CIA, dangerous drug cartels, and a buzzcut-wearing Tiffany Haddish, whose favourite Cage role is apparently in The Croods 2.

Sounds like Cage fans and critics alike will be in for big laughs and action setpieces, with a devilishly charming buddy comedy pair at the centre of it all. Whether Pascal lets Cage “f**k his wife or watch [him] f**k his wife” or not.

We’re probably most excited to see the figment of Cage’s imagination called Nicky, a younger version of the performer that mentally torments him with painful reminders of the past. Also played by Cage, obviously.
