Liam Neeson’s latest thriller Blacklight is now lighting up Aussie cinemas

Can you believe Irish action man Liam Neeson is turning 70 this year? Clearly beating up goons and getting sweet, sweet revenge is a natural anti-ageing remedy.

Neeson has been on a very lucrative roll with those kind of skull-cracking characters ever since Taken, and Blacklight is his latest in the thriller genre. It’s now screening in cinemas across Australia.

Blacklight stars Neeson as Travis Block, an FBI operative dealing with undercover agents whose cover has been blown. In the trailer below he sounds like your average, hyper-capable secret agent—or just Neeson listing off all the action moves he can fit into one trailer (“Breaking and entering, physical coercion, you name it”).

But when he wants to hang it all up and retire to be a good granddad, that’s not an option. Nor is looking the other way, when his handlers are exposed for killing countless innocents. As Travis murmurs in that distinctive accent, they’re going to need more men to shut him up.

Aidan Quinn plays the corrupt head honcho who’ll definitely get his ass handed to him by the end of the film (“You are my weapon—you work for me,” he obliviously sneers at Neeson). And Aussie star Yael Stone appears in a supporting role, because—surprise!—Blacklight was filmed in Melbourne and Canberra, Australia early in 2021.

So keep your eyes peeled for any unusually Aussie-looking landmarks: we couldn’t be more stoked to watch Neeson deliver some beatdowns in our own backyard.
