2017 Russian Resurrection Film Festival kicks off

The 2017 Russian Resurrection Film Festival has arrived, and runs until November 19. Screening across five Australian capital cities, as well as in New Zealand, the festival – now into its 13th year – remains the largest Russian film festival (outside of Russia) in the world.

The festival features 14 new films and eight restored classics, all with English subtitles. The films screen in Sydney, Canberra, Perth, Brisbane, Melbourne and Auckland.

Highlights from the festival include:

Attraction

“This is the first Russian film about invaders from outer space landing in Moscow. Attraction is a big-budget Russian sci-fi action-thriller from the makers of the blockbuster Stalingrad. It has been described as the Russian Independence Day.”

The Bolshoi

“One of the most anticipated films of 2017. Renowned director Valery Todorovsky (The Lover, Hipsters) provides us with a glimpse inside the Bolshoi Theatre and the lives of it’s graceful dancers.”

About Love. Adults Only

“Moscow, summer 2016. A new lecture, a new guest lecturer (non other than renowned American actor and director, John Malkovich) and a new theme: “How to preserve love in the modern world” – five short stories about love. Some hilarious, some moving, all thought-provoking!”

Blockbuster

“Loosely based on the true story of wannabe model Natasha and the collapse of her pursuit of fame and fortune. Blockbuster is a black comedy road movie about two young women on the run and their unlikely friendship as a result of a wild series of bizarre events.”

Anna Karenina. Vronsky’s Story

“Master director, Karen Shakhnazarov sets this classic in 1904 in the aftermath of one of the battles of the Russo–Japanese war. Sergei Karenin and Alexey Vronsky find themselves thrown together in a remote Manchurian village, where fate offers them a chance to return to the events long past.”
