Best new movies and TV series on Disney+ Australia: November 2021

Each month, new films and TV shows are added to Disney+‘s Australian library. Here’s Eliza Janssen’s recommendations for the titles most worth watching. Scroll down for the full list of everything arriving on the platform.

Top picks

Disney Day (November 12)

Does your household not celebrate Disney Day, and leave some money/merch out under the chimney for Mickey to hoover up? Whatever, you’ll still appreciate the House of Mouse’s most anticipated offerings on November 12, kicking off with the addition of Jungle Cruise to the platform’s general library.

Home Sweet Home Alone looks like a lively reboot of the holidays’ most gleefully sadistic series, and a new season of The World According to Jeff Goldblum will affirm that ‘life finds a way’. For something a bit family-friendly, the prestige series Dopesick will narrativize Big Pharma’s instigation of the US opioid epidemic: parents will get hooked to the unbelievable real-life drama.

The Night House (November 17)

Still screening in some Australian cinemas, this unsettling horror film may actually be a great option to watch from the (so-called) safety of your own home. The always-empathetic Rebecca Hall stars as Beth, a widow who begins suspecting the worst of her late husband when she finds candid photos on his computer of strangers. That is, women. Who look eerily similar to her.

Things escalate with the discovery of disturbing architectural designs, and not just because of some tacky reliance on open-floor plans. If splattery stories of demons and monsters aren’t your thing, The Night House will provide sophisticated chills. Make sure your own house is definitely empty before clicking that Star tile on the Disney+ homepage.

The Beatles Get Back (November 25, 26, and 27)

Nobody ever told Peter Jackson to K.I.S.S.: in fact, the legendary Kiwi director prefers to Keep It Extravagant and Long-Winded With Heaps Of Deleted Scenes and Extended Cuts, but that’s a far less snappy acronym. A mammoth 3-part event directed by Jackson will take us back to The Beatles’ recording sessions for their swan song album Let It Be.

Beatlemaniacs will be more than happy to wallow in minutiae for an hour or six. Facing that pivotal rooftop concert and still sorting out 14 new songs, John, Paul, George, and Ringo are captured at a fascinating time in their shared career. Each Beatle was starting to stray from their once-unified sound, and it’ll be utterly absorbing to see how their final work of bluesy majesty came together (hehe).
