Tessa Thompson’s critically acclaimed film Little Woods will premiere at Openair Cinemas

Who doesn’t love Tessa Thompson and Lily James?

The answer, of course, is nobody. So who wouldn’t want to attend the Australian premiere of their critically acclaimed new film, in an outdoors venue under the stars next to the MCG?

American Express Openair Cinemas want to encourage audiences to discover new films and are hosting the premiere of Little Woods at their brand new venue in Yarra Park on March 12, giving audiences the chance to see the film well ahead of its general release in Australia in May.

Little Woods, from first-time writer/director Nia DaCosta, follows two struggling young women living in a North Dakota town plagued with drug addiction and real estate crisis. Ollie (Thompson) and her sister Deb (James) have just one week to pay the mortgage on their mother’s house before the bank forecloses it but Ollie is also just one week away from the end of her probation after being busted dealing drugs.

Little Woods is currently sitting on a rip-snorting 100% Rotten Tomatoes approval rating. The Observer described it as “very personal and very touching” while Village Voice called it an “absorbing debut” that is “laced with urgent dread.”

Gates will open at 6pm for sunset drinks and gourmet food and the screening will kick off under the stars at around 8pm.
