Season two of Upright – reuniting Tim Minchin and Milly Alcock – is now streaming

If you’ve missed the adventures of mismatched maniacs Laclan “Lucky” Flynn (rock ‘n’ roll nerd Tim Minchin) and Megan “Meg” Adams (House of the Dragon superstar Milly Alcock) as they hare across the back blocks of Australia, we have good news for you: season two of Upright is now streaming on Foxtel Go and BINGE.

When we first met the pair, perpetually frazzled musician Lucky was embarking on an epic journey from Sydney to Perth, transporting an upright piano to his dying mother’s deathbed. Brassy teen runaway Meg was off on her own journey, fleeing an unendurable home life. A car accident having flung the two together, their journeys run parallel for a solid eight episodes as the pair learn life lessons from—and frequently in spite of—each other.

This second season, again written by creator Chris Taylor of The Chaser, Minchin, Kate Mulvaney, and Leon Ford, picks up a few years down the track. Lucky is a successful musician living a rock star lifestyle, until Meg knocks on his door and pressures him into another road trip—this time to far north Queensland in search of her long-missing mother. Although she promises it’ll take “two days, tops,” another even more chaotic sojourn awaits the pair.

Season one of Upright was surprise critical and commercial darling, so it makes sense that this new season has attracted a stellar supporting cast including newcomers Noni Hazlehurst (Play School), Jessica McNamee (Packed to the Rafters), Hayley McElhinney (Mystery Road: Origin), Darren Gilshenan (Stateless), Tom Budge (The Proposition), Anita Hegh (Total Control) and Travis Cotton (New Gold Mountain), plus returning players Heather Mitchell (Palm Beach), Ella Scott Lynch (Amazing Grace), Daniel Lapaine (Catastrophe) Daniel Frederiksen (The Dry) and Asmara Feik (True History of the Kelly Gang).

That much Australian talent on screen at once demands a squiz, so add Upright to your watchlist ASAP.
