The Top 10 Biggest Films of the 2016 Australian Box Office
It’s been another successful year of cinema, according to the Motion Picture Distributors Association of Australia. 2016 surpassed 2015’s record year with a box office CUME of A$1,259,337,000 – an increase of 2.69%
Over half of the Top 10 Highest Grossing Films of 2016 belonged to Walt Disney, with Pixar’s smash sequel Finding Dory taking the #1 spot. Just under half were based on comic books while only one film of the ten – Illumination’s The Secret Life of Pets – is an original film (i.e. not a sequel, prequel, spin-off, or remake).
