When will Dune be released in Australia?

Like sands through the hourglass, these are the days of our lives: days spent pining over Denis Villeneuve’s feature adaptation of Dune.

Fans of Frank Herbert’s classic sci-fi saga (read: big nerds) and blockbuster aficionados alike have been dying to see this thing since November 2020, when it was originally scheduled for release. Now it seems we will be ornithopter-ing into the world of Dune when the film arrives in Australian cinemas on December 2.

Controversially, Warner Bros. announced that Dune will join the other films in its’ 2021 cinematic slate in being streamed on the US’s HBO Max platform simultaneously with a more limited cinematic release.

The COVID-stranded Wonder Woman 1984 got a similar treatment, but hopefully Dune will benefit from IRL audiences a little more, coming out in a post-vaccine society that’s ready to see Timmy Chalamet ascend to Kwisatz Haderach.

For us Aussie audiences, Dune is scheduled to arrive in cinemas in October, with cinema-worthy CGI on an epic scale and that staggering celebrity cast. It includes Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Jason Momoa, Zendaya, Josh Brolin, Dave Bautista and Stellan Skarsgård as the revolting Duke Harkonnen.
