Netflix films and Tarantino lead Golden Globe nominations

Nominations for next year’s Golden Globes have been announced, with Netflix films leading the pack. Meanwhile, Taika Waititi’s awards hopeful Jojo Rabbit has been nominated in two hard-to-win categories.

Netflix’s investment in critic-friendly prestige pics continues to pay off, with the streaming giant’s divorce drama Marriage Story, directed by Noah Baumbach and available on Netflix now, picking up the most nominations for January’s Golden Globes. These nominations include Best Motion Picture – Drama (of which Netflix have three of the five nominations), Best Screenplay and acting nominations for leads Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson.

Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman and Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood are tied on five nominations apiece, going head to head for Best Director. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood has been entered into the Musical or Comedy category, which brings it into competition with the likes of Knives Out, Rocketman and Dolemite Is My Name – and Jojo Rabbit.

Jojo Rabbit secured two nominations, for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy and Roman Griffin Davis’s nom for Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy. Needless to say, these are going to be tough to win, with fellow acting nominees including Daniel Craig, Leonardo DiCaprio, Taron Egerton and Eddie Murphy.

The awards take place January 6 AU time, once again hosted by Ricky Gervais. Read on for the full list of nominees – including TV nominations, where Netflix also dominated.
