Kid Cudi fans rejoice: Entergalactic is coming to Netflix

Scott “Kid Cudi” Mescudi doesn’t just have a new album dropping soon, he’s got a whole animated special to accompany it landing on the same day. Kid Cudi fans rejoice: Entergalactic will be available exclusively on Netflix from September 30.

That’s Entergalactic the animated special, mind you; the album will presumably be available in all the usual places. A modern, urban love story with aesthetic notes of science fiction and magical realism, Entergalactic sees Mescudi, who appeared in the flesh in Bill and Ted Face the Music and X, voicing Jabari, an up-and-coming young artist on the very precipice of breakthrough success and hurting from a recent break-up with Carmen (Laura Harrier).

When we meet him, he’s focused on his art and planning on embracing bachelorhood, but a chance meeting with photographer Meadow (Jessica Williams) puts love back on the agenda. Still, the question remains: can our guy balance his creative and emotional drives?

Who can say? Maybe his weed dealer, Jimmy, who sounds amazingly like Timothée Chalamet, or his best bud Ky, voiced by Ty Dolla $ign. The rest of the voice cast is just as impressive, with Vanessa Hudgens, Christopher Abbott, 070 Shake, Jaden Smith, Keith David, Teyana Taylor, Arturo Castro, and Macaulay Culkin all appearing. Cudi is, of course, on music duties, with tunes from the album featuring heavily on the soundtrack.

The whole thing looks fascinating, with the elastic medium of animation being a perfect vehicle for the heightened emotions of music—it feels fantastical and slightly surreal even when the subject at hand is something as mundane but overwhelming as love. Early reports had Entergalactic pegged as an animated series, but that seems to have been untrue – it’s a one-off (for now at least) special clocking in at 92 minutes, and you can watch every single one of them on the last day of the month.
