Critics are going gaga over Mission: Impossible – Fallout

Daredevil special agent and all-round kick arse action hero Ethan Hunt is set to return to Australian cinemas on August 2 in Mission: Impossible – Fallout.

If you’re partial to the Mission: Impossible movies, which famously star Tom Cruise as Hunt, you may be in for a real treat if the buzz around this sixth instalment in the popular franchise is anything to go by.

Several critics and tastemakers in the US have already seen Fallout. To say that they have reacted positively to the film would be the understatement of the year.

Take for example this tweet from Erik Davis, the editor of Fandago:

Or this one from David Ehrlich from IndieWire:

Or this one from Scott Mendelson from Forbes:

You get the idea.

So in summary, nothing to see here. Just what some critics are calling one of the greatest action movies of the century, comparable to classics such as Mad Max: Fury Road and The Dark Knight.

When the critics came home from the advanced screenings of Fallout and had time to collect themselves, they wrote reviews that were no less excited.

In fact David Ehrich even upgraded his opinion, opening his IndieWire review with the following words: “It doesn’t take long to recognize that Mission: Impossible  Fallout is one of the best action movies ever made.”

Meanwhile, Nick Schager from The Daily Beast wrote:

“The director’s stunning wide-screen visuals (even more impressive in IMAX, whose outsized format is repeatedly exploited) enhance the magnificence of his scripting and staging, in which initially straightforward scenarios become complicated by a raft of unforeseen events, until the tension is almost too much to bear. In terms of providing a pure adrenalised rush, almost no contemporaries are in its league.”

And Conner Schwerdtfeger from CinemaBlend:

Mission: Impossible  Fallout is one of the most confident and capable action movies of the century. The franchise only seems to gain momentum with each passing installment, and the sixth entry in the series leaves us hoping that Ethan Hunt and the agents of the IMF will continue to accept these missions for years to come. See this movie as soon as possible, and on the biggest screen possible.”

We cannot wait to check out the film for ourselves (watch this space).

Mission: Impossible  Fallout was written and directed by Christopher McQuarrie, who previously directed Cruise in Jack Reacher and Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation. Cruise’s co-stars include Simon Pegg, Henry Cavill, Rebecca Ferguson and Ving Rhames.
