Australian box office report: Don’t Worry, Darling does twice as well as Amsterdam

Our weekly guide to what’s happening at the Australian box office – thanks to Numero.

Don’t Worry Darling and Amsterdam both entered Australian cinemas with a noticeable monolith of shame hovering over them. The former got tangled in some knotty behind-the-scenes scandals while the latter saw the director facing hefty and troublesome allegations. Did these issues factor into their respective box office performances? Who knows.

What we do know is that Olivia Wilde’s thriller mystery proved much more favourable to audiences than O. Russell’s star-crammed crime caper, earning $2.7mil versus Amsterdam‘s 1.25mil. That’s over double the earnings. Hakuna matata, darling.

Another note-worthy new release, Australian film Wog Boys Forever, got oh so close to collecting a sweet million in its opening week. Impressively, Smile widened its grin by grossing more in its second week than in its first.

Here are the top 10 films at the Australian box office, October 6 – 12.
