Australian box office report: Bollywood’s Brahmastra franchise opener catches fire

The re-release of Marvel’s latest Spider-Man entry last week failed to crack the top five in the box office, but India’s first attempt at an ambitious superhero cinematic universe has shot right to the top. Setting Indian and international audiences alight with its introduction of the “Astraverse”, Brahmastra Part One: Shiva had a lovely $1.2 million opening week.

After Ever Happy, a sequel from the fanfic teen romance After series, juuust made its way over the one-million mark, proving there are still hardcore Tessa and Hardin shippers out there. Beyond those two newbies, last week’s box office findings held steady, with audiences still discovering Bullet Train (now at a respectable $11 million) and Orphan: First Kill (should reach $2 million in its third week of release).

Audiences seem fairly unenthused about George Miller’s big-hearted fantasy Three Thousand Years of Longing, which is now earning just over half of what the undying Top Gun: Maverick makes in its umpteenth week. Not very magical results.

Here are the top 10 films at the Australian box office, September 7—16.
