Anchors aweigh! Here’s the trailer and release date for Jungle Cruise

It worked for Pirates of the Caribbean, it’ll work again: Disney is adapting their theme park’s quite sedate Jungle Cruise ride into a thrilling adventure film.

Starring The Rock and Emily Blunt as a reluctant pair of jungle voyagers, Jungle Cruise will be chugging into cinemas around Australia from July 29.

Seeking the magical healing properties from a tree with the potential to “change medicine forever”, Blunt’s scientist must deal with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as a gruff riverboat captain, journeying into a landscape dense with CGI danger and beauty alike.

The new trailer below brings up a mystical curse, with some zombified pirate corpses (??) giving the gang some undead opposition.

I definitely don’t remember those guys from the Walt Disney World ride, which instead involved being gently driven past animatronic sculptures of wild animals. Hopefully this fantasy feature is a bit more exciting than that.

I’m signing up for this movie in part because of Jesse Plemons, who’s playing an evil German submarine dude. Plemons is always striking and strangely funny, so hopefully Disney has given him the opportunity here to go full steam ahead (pun definitely intended).

Cruise into Disney’s latest IP-expanding fantasy adventure on July 29, when Jungle Cruise will screen in cinemas around Australia.
