Shane Carruth, writer-director of cult time-travel film Primer, returns with this mysterious Sundance-winning romantic thriller about a man and a woman who are "drawn together, entangled in the life cycle of an ageless organism."
"Kris (Amy Seimetz) is derailed from her life when she is drugged by a small-time thief. But something bigger is going on. She is unknowingly drawn into the life cycle of a presence that permeates the microscopic world, moving to nematodes, plant life, livestock, and back again. Along the way, she finds another being - a familiar, who is equally consumed by the larger force. The two search urgently for a place of safety within each other as they struggle to assemble the loose fragments of their wrecked lives." (Sundance Film Festival)
Since directing, writing and starring in 2004's Primer - which he made for just $7,000 - little was heard of Carruth until becoming involved with Looper, credited as a consultant for Rian Johnson's time-travel sequences.

Time Out
The effort is majestically single-minded, even if the overall vibe tips dangerously toward preciousness.

A deeply sincere, elliptical movie about being and nature, men and women, self and other, worms and pigs ...

Hollywood Reporter
A dramatically obscure, technically brilliant experiment in speculative fiction from Shane Carruth.
