Forget about understanding The Matrix Resurrections - just enjoy it.
Full reviewKeanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, Jada Pinkett Smith and Lambert Wilson rejoin Lana Wachowski (who directs solo here) for the fourth installment of the blockbuster sci-fi action series, with Neil Patrick Harris and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Candyman) joining the cast. Sharing writing duties with Wachowski are novelists David Mitchell (Cloud Atlas) and Aleksandar Hemon (Nowhere Man).
It’s really good, it's outrageously bananas, it's a wildly literal commentary on sequels, reboots and more - with absolutely compelling roles for Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss.
Forget about understanding The Matrix Resurrections - just enjoy it.
Full reviewA weird, hilarious, romantic, messy, violent and upsetting manic spectacle, Lana Wachowski’s sequel-reboot-remake encapsulates every emotion of this supremely messed up year.
Full reviewToo tortured, too inconsistent, to offer a cohesive experience, much less an enjoyable one.
Full reviewWhere the original film was explosively innovatory, this is just another piece of IP...
Full reviewIt happily revisits and remixes all the familiar elements in ways that seem more attuned to the needs of characters than to the demands of spectacle.
Full reviewIf you loved The Matrix and hated the sequels (or simply found them unsatisfying), go see this one. Have a blast.
Full reviewA reboot with some striking philosophical flourishes... but... also the weakest and most compromised Matrix film yet.
Full reviewIt's a do-over without a full share of wonderment, but still a lot of fun.
Full reviewA modern update that builds on its legacy with surprising and often funny tenderness.
Full reviewCall it crazy, call it an anti-sequel: just make sure you don’t miss Neo and Trinity’s fourth adventure.
Wildly literal commentary on sequels and reboots is more weird, more self-aware, more fun.
