Mon oncle
French filmmaker and comedian Jacques Tati's third feature, and first in colour. The nearly dialogue-free narrative follows Tati's pipe-smoking, unemployed Monsieur Hulot as he spends his days being a bad influence on his adoring nephew and wrestling with a new world of plastics and mechanics. Concerned about his future, Hulot's relatives attempt to find him employment and pair him off with a neighbour, with little success on either front.

The New York Times
Perceptibly contrived when it lingers too long and gets too deeply into the dullness of things mechanical.

Roger Ebert
Tati is the great philosophical tinkerer of comedy, taking meticulous care to arrange his films so that they unfold in a series of revelations and effortless delights.
