Cary “devil may care” Grant and the “ravishing” Rosalind Russell let sparks fly in this 1940s romantic comedy from Howard Hawks (The Big Sleep), considered by the original theatrical trailer as “a companion hit to Mr. Smith Goes to Washington.” The story follows Grant as the editor of a New Yrok newspaper chain as he tries to prevent his ex-wife – a crack-hot reporter played by Russell – from marrying a straight-laced insurance agent (who still lives with his mother).
