Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Tim Burton's take on Roald Dahl's classic kids book about eccentric candy tycoon Willy Wonka (Johnny Depp) and Charlie Bucket (Freddie Highmore), the boy from a poor family who finds a winning golden ticket in a Wonka chocolate bar. The ticket grants him access to Wonka's fantastical factory, along with his grandad and fellow winners - the greedy Veruca Salt, media-obsessed Mike Teevee, competitive Violet Beauregarde and gluttonous Augustus Gloop.

Reviews & comments

Time Out
pressIt's nearly impossible to fathom the grand act of sabotage that Johnny Depp has committed upon the source material as its reclusive chocolatier.

Roger Ebert
pressThe kids, their adventures and the song and dance numbers are so entertaining that Depp's strange Willy Wonka is not fatal to the movie, although it's at right angles to it.

Hollywood Reporter
pressA winning, charming, very droll children's film for the whole family.

Empire Magazine
pressWitty, wonderful and wildly imaginative, Burton's first proper 'family movie' since Pee-Wee's Big Adventure delivers a sugar rush that'll last for days.
