Follows the fraught relationship between Angela (career muse Anna Karina), an exotic dancer, and her boyfriend Émile (Jean-Claude Brialy). Desperate to become a mother, a reluctant Émile suggests his best friend impregnate her. Feelings become complicated when she accepts. This is Jean-Luc Godard's second feature after his New Wave breakthrough hit, Breathless.
