When will The Offer be released in Australia?

There’s no better time for a prestige miniseries to look back at the creation of The Godfather: it’s officially half a century since Francis Ford Coppola’s gangster classic hit cinemas, way back in 1972.

On April 28 2022, The Offer premieres on Paramount Plus, dropping its first three mob-tastic episodes before releasing the entire ten-episode series week-to-week from there.

The latest trailer below begins with a studio in dire need of a hit, and a Mario Puzo bestselling novel that everyone at the time was reading. Miles Teller is the brash fledgling producer Al Ruddy, who dares to take on subject matter that Hollywood finds a little tired and that Italian-American groups find downright offensive.

Since the production needs “someone who understands Italians”, they hire a young gun by the name of Francis (Dan Fogler), seen hovering over a typewriter and behind a super-8 camera, to pull together the movie that’ll soon be regarded as one of the greatest of all time. The new trailer doesn’t give us a glimpse of the re-enacted Pacino or Brando characters, forcing us to wait and watch their imitations when The Offer available to watch.

Matthew Goode looks like he’s having a good time as iconic Hollywood producer Robert Evans, acting pretty betrayed by his protege Teller. But an equally enjoyable presence is Juno Temple as Ruddy’s ride-or-die Bettye McCart: she promises that even though the movie might not get made or worse, lead to his violent death at the hands of the real mob, she’s not going anywhere.

Just like The Godfather itself promises, this is a story about America, and the glitzy stories Americans tell about themselves: with all the bellbottoms, turtlenecks, and leather jackets you could dream of. “It’s movie magic, baby”, Teller croons.
