The hugely acclaimed First Reformed will screen at Golden Age Cinema

First Reformed is the latest film from Paul Schrader, the legendary filmmaker with a hugely impressive body of the work – going all the way back to Martin Scorsese’s Taxi Driver, which he wrote in 1976.

Starring Ethan Hawke as a priest tormented by cancer and alcohol, the film has generated great acclaim since premiering last year at the Venice Film Festival.

Sitting on a certified fresh 93% Rotten Tomatoes score, many critics have praised Hawke’s performance.

Peter Travers from Rolling Stone described it as a “performance of raw intensity” while Alissa Wilkinson from Vox called it “stunning.”

We have good news for Sydnersiders, because the film will screen at Golden Age Cinema from November 8.

It will play a limited season there on the following dates: Thurs 8 Nov 7pm / Sat 10 Nov 5.45pm / Sun 18 Nov 8pm / Wed 21 Nov 6pm / Sun 25 Nov 5.30pm.

For cinephiles outside of Sydney, the bad news is that the film’s season is a Golden Age exclusive. So you guys will have to wait for the film’s home release.
