A live celebration of John Leguizamo’s greatest hits is happening in Melbourne

LEGUIZAMARAMA. That nonsensical word brings instant chaos, character and comedy to mind the instant one hears it. The only man that word can possibly refer to is Colombian-American actor John Leguizamo, a chameleonic performer who’s done everything from action to animated films, stand-up and voice-acting.

To properly celebrate this perhaps-underrated actor, we need two certified Leguizamo experts. Could Mish Wittrup and Zach Ruane, hosts of the podcast ‘Mish and Zach’s Leguizamarama’, be those two fated guides into Leguizamo’s filmography?

The answer is yes.

Running every Friday from February 12 to February 26, at Melbourne’s Lido Cinemas, the two friends/podcast hosts will present three unique film screenings of Leguizamo’s most iconic titles, beginning on February 12 at 8:45pm with a screening of Super Mario Bros. If you’ve already forgotten that Leguizamo played Luigi in that 1993 flop, you really need to get tickets to this live event. Quickly.

For the next two Fridays after that, Mish and Zach will delve even deeper, watching Leguizamo as Tybalt in Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet on Friday February 19, then concluding the series with John Wick on February 26.

You might already recognise Zach from the Aussie comedy troupe Aunty Donna, who recently put out their first Netflix sketch series Aunty Donna’s Big Ol’ House Of Fun. You can catch some of the same anarchic, pop-culture-spoofing fun in person at Lido, where Zach and Mish will provide highly-qualified (and hilarious) commentary as you watch the Leguiza-mazing action along with them.

Tickets are $30 for each screening; click here to secure your tickets or to find out more about this event.
