Australian trailer and release date for The Morning Show season 3

Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston are still in, Steve Carell’s out, Jon Hamm is showing up this season, and the backstage drama never lets up. It’s time to head back to TV’s most scandal-plagued production: viewers in Australia can watch The Morning Show season three when it hits Apple TV+ on September 13.

In case you missed the first couple of seasons of this acclaimed drama—confusingly retitled Morning Wars for the Australian market—it follows the power plays and backstabbing behind the scenes of the titular show, a popular breakfast news program. After anchor Mitch Kessler (Steve Carell) is canned following allegations of sexual misconduct, his on-screen partner Alex Levy (Jennifer Aniston) finds herself saddled with an ambitious new co-host, Bradley Jackson (Reese Witherspoon), and has to fight to keep the top job.

Way back in 2021, season two saw Carell’s scandal-plagued Mitch end his own life, shocking his colleagues. What the new season holds is anyone’s guess at this stage. But we do know that cast members Billy Crudup, Mark Duplass, Nestor Carbonell, Karen Pittman, Desean Terry, Julianna Margulies, Greta Lee, and Ruairi O’Connor are all expected to return, with new additions Nicole Beharie, Tig Notaro, Natalie Morales, Clive Standen, Alano Miller, and Lindsay Duncan joining the fold.

The big get is, as we noted above, is Mad Men star Jon Hamm, who’s sweeping into The Morning Show as Paul Marks, a tech billionaire who sets his sights on UBA, The Morning Show’s home network, forcing the normally fractious ensemble to make some uneasy alliances to weather the hostile takeover. Hamm’s been doing a lot of comedy lately, most recently in Good Omens season two, but we’re keen to see him do some more dramatic work.

We’re also looking forward to seeing how the show deals with the pandemic. Last season ended at the height of Covid, but we’re over the hump now in the real world, and it’ll be interesting to see how the series deals with the time shift. All we can say for sure is that it’ll be appointment television.
