It's not the best DC Universe show, or the weirdest, or the most dramatic. But dang, it made me the happiest, and at a time when things are pretty freaking grim, I appreciate any light bright enough to break through the clouds.

It is neither grim nor frivolous. It's just a good time -- and who doesn't want that every once in awhile?

Strong visual effects and the show's sunnily self-aware vibe go a long way to smoothing over the uneven plotting.

Stargirl is just the sort of charming, wholesome superhero series the world could use right about now.

The result is that a show that is frequently derivative to the point of distraction might actually fill a need for viewers able to concentrate on its occasional charms until better superhero shows return.
