Moviegoers across Australia will have the chance to experience a first-of-its-kind second screen experience as they play along on their smartphones to Pixels, the Adam Sandler sci-fi action-comedy.
In the unique event taking place at select Event Cinemas nationally on 1st and 2nd October, moviegoers will be able to download the ‘Pixels Second Screen’ app to their phones and interact during the film by syncing their device. Now, moviegoers can play along with the Arcaders in the film, helping to defeat Centipede and participate in the final battle, as well as answer trivia questions during other film sequences. The app may be downloaded from iTunes or Google Play.
Commenting on the announcement, Michael Fisk, senior vice president, International Marketing for Sony Pictures, said, “In the movie, the Arcaders use their gaming skills to save the Earth. That seemed to be the perfect setup for a second-screen experience, a great way for audiences to experience the movie thematically and to play against their friends and other moviegoers in a unique and organic way.”
Ann-Elizabeth Crotty, executive vice president, Exhibitor Relations, added, “To have the chance to play along on your phone while the film is running is something that’s never been done before, so we’re excited to be giving audiences their first chance to truly become part of the movie experience.”
