Cult classic Heathers returns to Australian cinemas for Valentine’s Day
The cult classic Heathers is now thirty years old. To celebrate its anniversary, Palace Cinemas will screen the film in Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra and Brisbane on Valentine’s Day, February 14.
Set in an Ohio high school, the film is a black comedy about a vicious clique of students, three of them named Heather. The fourth is Veronica (Winona Ryder) who throws a spanner in the works when she decides she’s had enough of their bitchy behaviour.
The cast includes Winona Ryder, Shannen Doherty, Christian Slater and Kim Walker. Heathers was a box office disappointment when it was released, but later generated a loyal following.
Revisiting the film in 2014, Jason Bailey from Flavorwire said it “still pulses with the visceral thrill of getting away with something.” TimeOut called it “a wicked black comedy about teenage suicide and pernicious peer-group pressure” and a “refreshing parody of high-school movies.”
Sessions have been confirmed at the Astor Theatre and Westgarth Outdoor in Melbourne, Palace Central in Sydney, Palace Electric in Canberra and Palace Centro in Brisbane.
Tickets for the Valentine’s Day screenings range from $10 – $17 and include a glass of La Gioiosa ‘Il Fiore Prosecco for an extra $5. Tickets can be purchased online here.
