A “Mary Poppins”-like tale of naughty well-heeled tykes tamed by a magical child-minder.
Full reviewBritish children's fantasy starring Emma Thompson (Love Actually) as a magical governess - but this nanny is no Mary Poppins. Widowed undertaker Mr. Brown (Colin Firth, The King's Speech) must find a governess for his seven unruly children. He employs the mysterious Nanny McPhee, a frightening old maid with a no nonsense attitude and magical powers.
The Brown children make it their mission to drive her away, as they have done the last 17 nannies. When Mr. Brown's Aunt Adelaide (Angela Lansbury, Mr. Popper's Penguins) threatens to cut off his inheritance and break up the family if he can't find a wife within the month, the children turn to Nanny McPhee for help.
Based on the Nurse Matilda children's books, Emma Thompson stars and also wrote the screenplay.

Full reviewFrothy and fun yet deliciously dark, this may be eclipsed by next month’s Harry Potter but should be sought out for its own, equally entertaining, magical charm.
