12 Angry Men

Henry Fonda stars in Sidney Lumet’s Oscar-nominated court case classic about a seemingly cut-and-dry murder case: eleven jurors believe the teen is guilty, one juror does not. Set entirely within the jury room, Juror #8 (Fonda) feels that there might be room for reasonable doubt despite the overwhelming evidence. As he makes his case frustration grows, arguments get heated and hidden personal demons are revealed.

This is filmmaking legend Lumet's first feature film. The story is based on a 1954 teleplay written by Reginald Rose, which was turned into a stageplay the following year.

Best Actor (Fonda) winner at the 1958 BAFTA Awards. Golden Berlin Bear and OCIC Award winner at the Berlin Film Festival 1957.

Too few films take on the art of arguing as a subject; we could certainly use more of them.

This is a film where tension comes from personality conflict, dialogue and body language, not action.

Startlingly moving and powerful for a one-room, wordy drama...
