A wryly compassionate vision of human fallibility that occasionally threatens to slip off-track.

We get vested in the lives of these characters. That's rare in a lot of movies.

Veers between the cutesy and the overly earnest.

Clooney stood out from the otherwise 'ordinary/real' looking cast. But this is an interesting movie, funny and sad. Shailene Woodley - the older daughter is a real stand out. I recommend it.

Clunky, TV sitcom like, Expositional script. Nice relationship between daughters. I guess still worth seeing, but don't expect anything new/ different.

We really enjoyed this movie. The acting was superb - particularly George Clooney and Shailene Woodley. Moving without being soppy! And the Hawaiian scenery was a real bonus - must visit one day!

Hawaii looks great, George's relationship with his daughters developing. It was a lovely movie too see and what it had to offer an audience was worthwhile.

I'm conflicted about Alexander Payne's 'The Descendants'. I have spent most of the evening trying to disassociate the hype from the packaged product. As I sit here I can honestly put hand on heart and say that I'm yet to resolve my feelings about it. Sadly (stupidly maybe), I went against my better judgement and read a-lot about this film leading up to...

If Clooney gets an Oscar for this there is something very wrong. A story about middle Americans living in a Hawaii that looks like a retirement community where you go to die. Very heavy handed moralistic themes. Clooney played it well but some of the other actors gave less than stellar performances. Why this is getting good reviews is unfathomable to me....

Surely Golden Globes could find a better film/actor than this number. Yes, this is a 'nice' film with 'nice' acting (although George is badly cast - am I the only one who thinks there is usually a smirk detectable somewhere in his 'nuanced' performance, does he need to be that good looking for this role, it just doesn't fit). Good script, nice beaches, but...
