A surprisingly effective teen-skewing thriller that soft-pedals graphic violence (in marked contrast to the R-rated 1980 original) while generating a fair degree of suspense.
Full reviewOh my goodness. Did you here what happened to Clare? It was the night of the senior prom and she got, like, kidnapped by this total weirdo in this hotel. He was so extremely crazy and she was, like, murdered.
So then her friend Donna, who had the most awesome blonde hair, realized who the killer was. Some dude from her past. She and her friends had to get the hell out of there and escape, otherwise their prom night would be totally, like, ruined.

Full reviewThe movie offers less gore than the average Band-Aid commercial and fewer scares than the elimination episodes of "Dancing With the Stars."
Full reviewEvery horror movie cliche is thrown at the screen but it's amazing how little of it is even remotely scary.
Full reviewFor all its flaws, Prom Night did have some things going for it. The aforementioned scare scenes were OK, the cops turned up at the right time and did the right things, the victims weren’t complete idiots and the killer was believable (if a bit boring). These things aside, it is still garbage, and truly pointless garbage at that, but it gets a generous 2 stars for being better than I expected.
Full reviewThis is as listless, mindless and utterly useless a piece of corporate brain-clog as one is likely to come across for quite some time.
Full reviewViewers' own evenings, meanwhile, will likely be ruined by unimaginative direction, inane dialogue, and Schaech's passing resemblance to Forrest Gump.
