Bachelorette

Kirsten Dunst, Isla Fisher and Lizzy Caplan star in this comedy about three coked-up, foul-mouthed friends asked to be bridesmaids for the loser they ridiculed back in high school. Produced by Will Ferrell, this is the feature debut of playwright Leslye Headland.

"Regan (Dunst) is used to being first at everything, but now the girl they used to call Pig Face (Rebel Wilson) is going to tie the knot before she does. Regan sucks it up and takes on bridesmaid duties along with substance-abusing, promiscuous Gena (Caplan) and ditzy Katie (Fisher). The single ladies are determined to put their bitterness aside and have an awesomely hedonistic bachelorette party. Supplied with coke and booze, the femmes embark on one very long night filled with major wedding-dress panic, various bodily fluids, and cute ex-boyfriends." (Sundance Film Festival)

After a promisingly funny first half, this tale of three coke-snorting gal-pals trying not to screw up their friend's nuptials all but drowns in its own catty cynicism.

The first half hour has the scheming zing of a better episode of Gossip Girl.

This acid-dipped comedy, which seems inevitably fated to be weighed against Bridesmaids... A tasty cast and a good share of snappy dialogue provide entertainment but can’t make this pre-nuptials shindig quite the party that it might have been.

Succumbs to sentimentality late in the game, but it's funniest and most entertaining when channeling its raging inner bitch.
