How to watch Jamie Foxx as a pool cleaner/vampire hunter in Day Shift

Jamie Foxx is making a living by slaying—and cleaning pools of the San Fernando Valley—in Netflix’s new original movie Day Shift. It’s quite amusing to us that the film also stars Snoop Dogg, meaning both leads have animal surnames with a saucy extra letter thrown in.

Day Shift is streaming on Netflix from August 12, a vampire-hunting horror-comedy with an unlikely sunny Californian setting. Since it’s produced by Chad Stahelski, the trailer below can boast that it comes “from the guys who taught John Wick how to kick ass.”

As Snoop Dogg rhymes in the footage below, vampire hunting is not that glamorous, mostly a side gig all in the name of “cuttin’ necks and cashin’ checks”. Foxx’s badass character feels the same way, taking on multiple jobs to support his wife (Meagan Good) and kid. “You know what I see when I see a vamp?”, he asks nerdy sidekick Dave Franco: “Big ol’ dollar sign.”

Kicked out of the vampire hunting union after one too many public incidents, Foxx has one last chance to slay his way back into the game, taking on a “day shift” and visiting suburban homes to take down bendy, gymnastic vampires. Their clicking joints and back-bends are a nice and threatening new twist on one of cinema’s most familiar monsters.

The trailer looks promising, with a punchy final gag about how Foxx knows all the titles in the Twilight franchise, and that unexpected, sun-soaked setting. It’s director and writer J.J. Perry’s debut, but certainly not Foxx’s first time in a Netflix original.

His previous efforts for the streaming service, Project Power and the short-lived sitcom Dad Stop Embarrassing Me!, were both pretty weak. We’re sure that Day Shift will be a better showcase of his comedy, action skills, and sheer charisma—maybe he’ll even get bitten and have the chance to show off some fanged villainy, too.
