First trailer for miniseries The Offer shows the birth of a mob movie classic

This year marks The Godfather‘s 50th birthday: half a century of much-parodied mob movie excellence. Thanks to the Oscar-dominating brilliance of Francis Ford Coppola’s movie, generations of film fans have probably grown up quoting Brando without even knowing it.

Taking that big anniversary into account, there’s no better time to reflect on the gangster flick supreme, and The Offer is here to do just that. The ten-part biopic series premieres exclusively on Paramount+ this April 28.

There are a bunch of real New Hollywood legends being portrayed by modern-day talent, including Matthew Goode as super-producer Robert Evans and Dan Fogler as Coppola. But Al Ruddy is our central character, played by Miles Teller as a slick studio upstart with very 70s sideburns.

Facing accusations of anti-Italian discrimination and threats from a Mr Sinatra to shut down the studio, Ruddy must navigate Mario Puzo’s gangster book to the big screen. Robert Evans sneers that they’ll have to “beg, borrow, steal, do whatever it takes…You got brains and you got baaaalls, try using both”.

The Offer also stars Giovanni Ribisi, Colin Hanks, Burn Gorman, and Ted Lasso gem Juno Temple. Cleverly, Paramount+’s first trailer doesn’t give us any hints of actors portraying Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, and the rest—we’ll have to wait until April for those.

It’s certainly one of the streaming platform’s biggest offerings yet, one which gangster movie fanatics may not be able to refuse. Could be a good time to sign up, considering that the Paramount Pictures lot is a pivotal location for all of the limited series’ historical action.
