Cardi B joins the Fast and Furious family in franchise’s ninth film

2019 has already been a big year for rapper/walking meme Cardi B, in terms of cinematic achievements. The New York hip hop star made her first big screen appearance in Lorene Scafaria’s celebrated crime drama Hustlers, and was singled out as ‘a natural talent’ by critics.

It looks like the Money performer is keen to add to her nascent filmography with a role in the upcoming Fast and Furious 9 – yes, there are nine of these movies out by now. Filming has only just wrapped on the revhead franchise’s ninth entry, and the series’ star Vin Diesel took to Instagram from the UK set to kick back and celebrate in a short video with Cardi.

Cardi, real name Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar, admitted that she was tired after wrapping in the Instagram video. She said with typical bravado, “I aint gonna front, this is gonna be the best one.” Diesel appeared alongside the Bronx rapper, hyping up the film’s impending release after 86 days of shooting.

The tenth installment in the series (if you count this year’s spin-off Fast & Furious: Hobbs and Shaw!), Fast 9 is scheduled to be released on May 22, 2020 in the US. What we know apart from Cardi’s involvement is that Charlize Theron will be appearing as the eighth film’s white-girl-with-dreadlocks hacker villainess Cipher, who could remotely control any car in the world to hilarious effect.

The cast also features John Cena in an undisclosed mystery role – could the wrestler and Cardi potentially play themselves? We’ve got seven or eight months to wait until we find out, okurr?
