Bad trip: get addicted to Stan’s new crime drama Hightown

It was an Official Selection of the tragically postponed South By Southwest film festival, but upcoming crime drama Hightown is going to make a splash wherever it premieres. Which, in Australia’s case, is exclusively on Stan. Produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, the series is going to premiere on 17 May, the same day as the US.

Hightown is set amidst the maritime glamour of Cape Cod, where a hard-partying local cop feels her life spin out of control after a body is found on the beach. Convinced that it’s up to her to solve the murder, Agent Jackie Quiñones (Monica Raymund) has to face her own addictions and past demons in order to bring an end to her community’s insidious opioid epidemic.

The series also stars James Badge Dale as an abrasive member of the Cape Cod Narcotics Unit, and features episodes directed by the Oscar-nominated cinematographer of Black Panther. Check out the trailer above to see if Hightown‘s blend of intense cop mystery and addiction drama are likely to grab you.

The eight-episode series will air new episodes weekly on Stan, starting May 17. It’s sure to give your days of self-isolation a much-needed adrenaline boost, and to allow us a window into a more invisible, sinister kind of sickness.
