Australian horror hit Relic has a 100% Rotten Tomatoes score, and it’s coming to Stan

In past six months or so, Stan has really redoubled its efforts to claim its title as the home of Australian original content, with four new TV shows and the celebrated True History Of The Kelly Gang paving the way. And their latest acquisition, industry newcomer Natalie Erika James’ horror film Relic, looks like it could the most exciting addition yet, considering the movie has a perfect 100% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes!

James’ psychological family horror was the only Aussie entry at Sundance this year, where it received rave reviews. The movie follows three generations of women in the same family who become haunted by a controlling supernatural presence affecting grandma Edna (Robyn Nevin)…or is it just her Alzheimers?

Either way, Edna’s daughter Kay (Emily Mortimer) and granddaughter Sam (Bella Heathcote) must set out to find the family’s matriarch when she goes missing in the Melbourne countryside.

Natalie Erika James described herself as “absolutely thrilled to be working with Stan to share Relic with Australian audiences as a Stan Original Film.” She continued on to say that “having made the film with an Aussie team in and around Melbourne, it means so much to launch on ‘home turf’ at the same time as our U.S. release.”

There’s also some seriously impressive Hollywood power in the producer’s team involved with Relic, such as backer Jake Gyllenhaal producing, and The Avengers mastheads The Russo Brothers executive producing. Stan subscribers will be able to check out what got those guys onboard, and what makes Relic so eerily acclaimed, when the film becomes available on the platform on July 10.
