An Australian Lockdown Comedy Festival is coming to Stan to tickle your self-isolating funny bone

Right now, a lot of Australians are probably jonesing for the thrill of a live experience. Anything, really: a concert, a footy match, or a stand-up comedy set that takes your mind off your own stressors and responsibilities, allowing you to laugh along with a big room full of strangers.

While it’ll still be a good while before most of us can congregate together in a dark club to experience the real thing, Stan has come up with a nifty solution for the short-term self isolation period: the Australian Lockdown Comedy Festival, a brand new original series which features Aussie stand-up icons performing from their own homes.

The media release delightfully states that the comedians will speak to us from “their kitchens, lounges, bedrooms and perhaps even their bathrooms—because let’s face it, there’s nothing funnier than toilet humour.”

The still-developing line-up includes Wil Anderson, Cal Wilson, Nazeem Hussain, Dave Hughes, Zoe Coombs Marr, Tommy Little, Geraldine Hickey, Dilruk Jayasinha, Steph Tisdell, Aaron Chen, Sam Campbell, Michelle Brasier, and Nath Valvo, with more to be announced soon.

With the distressing cancellation of both Melbourne and Sydney’s international comedy festivals, many of the listed comedians had prepared exciting new material, but now have no stage to stand on. Susan Provan, the festival director for the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, enthused that “the Australian Lockdown Comedy Festival goes a long way to fill the gap with an eclectic mix of fantastic current comedy streamed straight to lounge rooms right across Australia.”

So keep your eyes peeled for the announcement of a premiere date, and for the full line-up of quarantined comedy talent! Stan subscribers exclusively can get a front row seat to Australia’s newest—and potentially most affordable—comedy festival. Another bright side? No hecklers and no audience participation.

Stan is yet to confirm a release date for the Lockdown Comedy Festival.
