Tomorrow Never Dies
James Bond attempts to stop a potential war between China and the UK in this 1997 entry into the 007 franchise – the second to star Pierce Brosnan as Bond. Media tycoon Elliot Craver (Jonathan Pryce, Brazil) wants the world on his stage, hoping to trigger and broadcast World War III. In order to stop him, Bond works with Chinese agent Wai Lin (Michelle Yeoh, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon), but the plan threatens to crumble when 007 runs into his former lover (Teri Hatcher, Desperate Housewives) – who is now Craver’s wife.

It succeeds, although it is let down by its weak villain. But there are enough stunts, quips and high-tech thrills to keep you from caring.

Fast, funny, very British and less militaristic than, say, The Peacemaker. On this evidence, we may be forced to say, Carry on, Bond.
