The Wicker Man
Both a bonafide horror classic (of the creepy, not gory kind) and '70s cinematic oddity, this British mystery from the pen of Anthony Shaffer (Frenzy) follows stuffy British Sgt. Howie as he travels to Scottish island Summerisle to investigate the disappearance of a young girl. While encountering a wall of silence amongst the town's odd inhabitants - including the beautiful, sexually liberated daughter of the innkeeper - Howie discovers a society steeped in secrets and strange, pagan rituals.

The Guardian
A British golden-oldie worthy to be placed alongside classics such as Ira Levin's The Stepford Wives or Rosemary's Baby.

Empire Magazine
More than anything else, a film about what people can do in the name of religion or, more generally, belief. Its power comes not from appeals to the supernatural but from a deep understanding of our own undeniable nature.
