Intense, heart-wrenching, endearing, real - just what a good film should be

I loved this film. I felt that the story was told with great respect for the soldiers who lived through the horrific experiences that the film portrays. While Firth was as good as he always is, the stand-out actor for me was Jeremy Irvine, playing the young Eric Lomax. This film has it all - drama, suspense, heart-wrenching moments, reconciliation. What the Japanese invaders did to the British soldiers after the occupation of Singapore was truly horrific, and this film stands as a fitting memorial to those brave soldiers. I'm now off to read the book.
