Time Out
As the star-struck couple, Farrow and Daniels work wonders with fantastic emotions, while Allen's direction invests enough care, wit and warmth to make it genuinely moving.
Full reviewA movie character walks off the screen and into real-world 1930s New Jersey in this Woody Allen romantic comedy starring Jeff Daniels and Mia Farrow.
Cecilia (Farrow) is a waitress in New Jersey living a dreary life during the Great Depression, where the only escape from her mundane reality is the movie theatre. After losing her job, Cecilia goes to see 'The Purple Rose of Cairo' hoping it'll raise her spirits, where she watches dashing archaeologist Tom Baxter (Daniels) time and again... until one day he notices her.
