The Limits of Control

The true indie auteur, Jim Jarmusch (Broken Flowers, Down by Law), presents a thriller about a mysterious loner (Isaach De Bankolé, in his fourth collaboration with the director), a stranger, whose activities remain meticulously outside the law. He is in the process of completing a job, yet he trusts no one, and his objectives are not initially divulged. His journey, paradoxically both intently focused and dreamlike, takes him not only across Spain but also through his own consciousness.

Filmed in Madrid, Seville and Almeria. Cinematography by  acclaimed cinematographer Christopher Doyle (In the Mood for Love, Paranoid Park).

Genius!!!

IF YOU DON'T DIG JARMUSCH FILMS, DON'T WATCH THIS!!! However if, like myself, you love the attention to detail, appreciate the snippets of dialogue, and enjoy watching Isaach De Bankole wander like a Tarantino-cool and stealthy tourist through the streets of Spain... DON"T MISS IT! More akin to Dead Man or Coffee & Cigarettes than Broken Flowers, I...

OH dear God

Jarmusch I decided was suicidal when making broken flowers. After this just give him the rope.

Give me my 12 hours back...

I was surprised to check the running time was under 4 hours when I watched this. I honestly felt this was the longest most dragging film I have ever seen. About a quarter of the way through I was getting restless and found myself regretting coming to this film. I thought, Just maybe there would be light at the end of the tunnel. There was a candle light...

The Flop of the Festival

This was a big disappointment. I saw at the Festival, couldn't wait to see it but it's a big let down. I'm a Jarmusch fan, but couldn't make heads or tails of this... attempts to be arty and challenging but comes of meaningless.

WHAT A DRAG!

Woah Jaramusch... what happened. All that I can really describe this movie is meaningless walking for what seems like half a week! THRILLER? What a joke! It was neither thrilling nor enjoyable. A plus side is that it is shot beautifully, but in no way or form does that make up for the lack-luster plot and There is a deeper meaning behind the plot and it...

Worst of all, it just feels tired and recycled.

A nondramatic work best appreciated as a pure image-and-sound event.

Jarmusch is making some kind of a point. I think the point is that if you strip a story down to its bare essentials, you will have very little left. I wonder how he pitched this idea to his investors.

A little like guided meditation with suggestions floated, waiting, left untethered. It's up to you to distill meaning -- which will leave some convinced the director is merely self-indulgent, and others deeply satisfied.

Unfortunately, the whole seldom adds up to the sum of its illustrious parts, and Jarmusch's trademark deadpan quirks seem to have gotten lost in the translation.
