The Ant Bully
(2006)A hearty concoction of critter movies and Honey I Shrunk The Kids come together to create The Ant Bully, a Warner Bros animated family flick...
Lucas Nickle (Zach Tyler) is the new kid in town and the local bully, Steve, makes sure he knows it. Lucas gets so fed up with being bullied, he takes out his frustration on ants in his backyard. The ants become furious, and Zoc (Nicolas Cage) - the ant's resident wizard - uses a potion to shrink him down to ant size to teach him to think before he stomps.
Lucas is sentenced to hard labour in the ant community, and comes to realise his wrong doings. When the local pest control guy (Paul Giamatti) arrives to wipe out the colony, Lucas strives to protect the ants. An "ants vs pest control" battle ensues and Zoc reluctantly accepts that Lucas may be their only chance of survival.

None of this, unfortunately, makes John A Davis' yarn more than just another bug movie, the star wattage of its voice cast doing little to counter the stumbling obviousness of the whole. Nor does it redeem a script that, with its emphasis on action, faeces, and slimy goo, emulates its hexapod heroes by having its heart in its ass... Full Review
As kiddie entertainment it works well, with simple humour and lots of action. But there’s not a lot to appeal to any accompanying adults... Full Review
An effortlessly clever animated confection... Full Review
Feels anonymously generic and charmlessly mechanical... Full Review
Wittily manipulating scale to generate the requisite fright factor, the movie is stuffed with visual delights both lyrical (a squadron of ants hang-gliding on flower petals) and visceral (a battalion of bottle-blue wasps on the wing)... Full Review
Family entertainment at its best... The brilliance of "The Ant Bully'' is in the crafty way it delves into the minds of ants as they plot to save themselves from extermination. Filmmaker John A. Davis creates a marvelously labyrinthine society for them, existing right below the surface of a bland suburb in Anywhere, USA... Full Review
