Spring Breakers

Described by the Hollywood Reporter as "porn-pulp" and nominated for top honours at the Venice Film Festival, Spring Breakers follows four college girls on a decadent spree of partying and crime as they head off on Spring Break. A diverse range of talent assembles for this blend of arthouse and exploitation: James Franco, former Disney starlets Vanessa Hudgens and Selena Gomez, and filmmaker provocateur Harmony Korine (KidsGummo).

Brit (Ashley Benson), Candy (Hudgens), Cotty (Rachel Korine) and Faith (Gomez) are four besties living together in a boring college dorm. Starved for adventure, they find it in a chance encounter with white-trash gangster rapper 'Alien' (Franco). The moronic Alien promises to provide all the drugs and excitement they could hope for, and the chance for a real Spring Break in Florida. But amongst the Girls Gone Wild-like thrills, a spot of armed crime is required to maintain the high life and it soon becomes unclear how far the girls are willing to go.

crazy dream

It's starts off like a vapid teen drama that ascends into a dream-like nightmare. Beautiful use of colour. Excellent cast.

Spring Break Forever

Absolutely Excellent. It was a creative choice the film made to show a fantastical exaggeration of the 21st century regurgitation of the American dream. That is what the film was about, and it gave us that as accurately as anyone could. I've heard from many, mixed reactions; and I can see it may have been because of it's stylization, content, or the...

Overly prolonged music video

I went in with zero expectations but still came out disappointed. The only redeeming factor about this movie was James Franco's performance, which was entertaining. The movie otherwise left a really strange feeling and was as aimless as its young stars with repetitive dialogue. There was barely a story line and I felt my brain cells depleting while...

maybe it was because i didnt care for parts of the movie, or majority of the barely there story line... but hands down had no hope for it when it went to watch it - preview was awesome(thanks flicks) but majority of it i sat there laughing as James Franco with his golden grills and corn roll hair... oh and dont forget his dark tanning oil - wouldve had to...

Spring Break Y'all

I had fairly low expectations going in. But it was quite good. The performances were a surprise and Franco was amazing. The only thing that got tiresome was the repetition of Spring break forever. Some people are going to dismiss it as an oggle fest but it's got more depth then that.

Terrible

OH MY GOD, worst movie ever. It was a complete joke. The repetition was so annoying, i swear you just want it to end. None of it is believable.

Time wasted on a classified porno

Unfortunately I found this to be repetitive and nauseating. The cinematography was appalling and the acting matched. The numerous shots of breasts, ass and female crotch shots was inappropriate. James Franco what were you thinking signing up to this one!

1st Time 'Korine' Experience = Surprisingly Dark Brilliance.....Im Hooked

James Franco 10/10 performance! All day his slow drawling "Spring Braaa-aake" has been playing in my head, I can understand the underlying theme of wanting more and finding out that the grass isnt greener on the other side, its actually astroturf disguised as luciousness! The editing is brilliant, casting is brilliant, plot is brilliant, you are drawn in to...

Spring Breakers: Not for everyone

Spring Breakers is undoubtedly Harmony Korine's most conventional feature given his usual canvas of dark humour and the absurdist (Gummo - his most acclaimed work always comes to mind). With Spring Breakers, Korine is oddly restrained which is surprising due to the tangible narrative, which largely revolves around the movie's setting - Spring Break. The...

Come on Korine

Korine's other films perhaps had something special and real, but this just seemed like a joke. An excuse to have girls dressed in bikinis with guns. Silly.

Attractively fizzy... but remains pretty toothless titillation by its writer-helmer's standards.

Brave, brash and exhilarating, but lacking the insight and impact of the Korine-scripted Kids (1995).

It's campy and comic at times, but Korine also gives the film a downbeat, melancholic edge, with voiceovers, pointed repetition of dialogue and images, and hallucinatory camera work, sound and editing.

A gonzo, outrageously funny party that it takes a while to appreciate that this is more of a horror film than a comedy.

Korine bounces back like a man possessed, rekitted as some 21st-century Russ Meyer.

The movie is an arty lark of ambiguous entertainment value, pulsing with melancholy.

James Franco smashes it out of the park as Alien, a cornrowed, dental-grill-sporting Kevin Federline-a-like.

Has hypnotic visual style and a dense, driving soundscape. But it's also too monotonous and thematically empty to be seriously provocative.

A lurid, luminous teen-bender movie, as ludicrous as it is stylish, and Harmony Korine's best film in years.

Lush and exuberant and gives [Korine's] admittedly brilliant eye its fullest expression to date.
