One Night with the King

One Night with the King

One Night with the King
The Biblical tale of Esther, an orphaned Jewish peasant who becomes the Queen of Persia. The film attempts to revive the old school, Hollywood Biblical epic, and comes with a ringing endorsement from the American Bible Society. Choice aye!

"Chronicles the life of a young Jewish girl, Hadassah, who wins the heart of the "fiercely" handsome King Xerxes and becomes Esther, the Queen of Persia. As Queen, she saves the Jewish nation from annihilation at the hands of its arch enemy."

AMAZING

This movie is touching, and intense. It's a true story, and it is not as far from the original story as I thought it would be. I watched it many times and loved it each time. It is inspiring for all of us, to live for the moment we are in.

Blessed with abundant production values and a minimum of campy excess, One Night With the King is a surprisingly satisfying attempt to revive the Old Hollywood tradition of lavishly appointed Biblical epics...

Fails to find the genuine drama in its story of love and intrigue...

This preposterous adaptation of the Book of Esther is recommended viewing only for those impressed that it comes endorsed by the American Bible Society...

There's not much joy in One Night With the King, a lavish but listless retelling of the biblical story of Esther...

All the actors are called on to emote with all their might, so it's haphazardly entertaining, and the exotic settings are gorgeous. But overall this is a disjointed, confusing movie. The very human story of Esther's bravery 2500 years ago is sadly lost in a talky, muddled script.
