Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone
Harry Potter is an ordinary 11-year-old boy who learns that he is actually a wizard and has been invited to attend the Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Snatched away from his mundane existence by Hagrid, the giant grounds keeper for Hogwarts, Harry is thrown head-first into a magical world he never knew existed.
Famous for an incident that happened at his birth, which gave him a distinctive lightning-shaped scar, Harry makes friends easily at his new school. He soon finds, however, that the wizarding world is far more dangerous for him than he would have imagined, and he quickly learns that not all wizards are ones to be trusted.

Roger Ebert
A red-blooded adventure movie, dripping with atmosphere, filled with the gruesome and the sublime, and surprisingly faithful to the novel.

The script is faithful, the actors are just right, the sets, costumes, makeup and effects match and sometimes exceed anything one could imagine.
